Are you interested in keeping your own chickens?
Whether you have many country acres or a suburban backyard getting back to nature and keeping your own chickens has grown in popularity over the last few years!
Keeping chickens in your backyard can be a great way for families to come together, teach young children about food, responsibility, and the environment. If you want to start keeping chickens, look no further than our new Intro to Backyard Chicken Keeping course! This course will take you through the steps, equipment, time, and money needed to be successful in raising your own layer hens. You will learn about all the different types of laying chickens available, what color eggs they produce, what structures are needed and what you can expect! Chickens can also be a great feature to your gardens as a form of integrated pest management. Keeping chickens can be a wonderful experience, and if you have met our instructor, Farmer Pam Purce (Sprouts!) you know she knows her stuff! *If there is a large interest in having more classes, we will be considering starting a monthly series to feature a different topic each month as you go through the seasons with your chickens!*
The course is scheduled for Tuesday, April 23rd at 6:00pm.
This class will be held in the main room of the Baltimore County Agricultural Center located at 1114 Shawan Road, Cockeysville, MD 21030.
